Week 1
Currently, I am focusing my senior project along with the lens of creating wearable art in the surrealist, and contemporary realm. This felt like a fantastic way to interpret my adoration of contemporary art into something I could integrate into everyday life, i.e pants, shirts, jewelry, etc. I've also had to put my passion for art aside as I've spent the entirety of high school focusing on what will get me into college, which isn't always what makes me happy. This capstone was a way for me to let out all that creative drive I've had to hold back on in a way that both benefits me educationally but also as an artist and a creator; My inspiration behind this project was widespread. I've seen the way contemporary and surrealist art is portrayed change hugely over the span of quarantine, specifically through social media. I have always wanted to explore art outside of my comfort zone of realistic sketches. I pulled this project into existence by creating a terrifyingly large board of inspirational images on Pinterest, and then headed to Michael's and Goodwill to look for materials to create and manipulate. The main goals I have for this project aren't entirely measurable, but I deem them most important to the quality of the work I do. Trying new stylistic variations and mediums for the makeup I'll be doing is one of my first goals. I went into this project eager to push myself, and eager to create in new ways. My second goal was to push my color scheme out of cool tones. Normally when I create, I feel like I only use half of the color wheel, and tend to create using warmer colors, so I want to see if for this project I can use cooler tones to create pieces. My final goal is to improve my sewing skills past the early beginner stage that they're already at. Since I want my art to be wearable, I know becoming proficient with sewing is essential for success.
This week I was able to create a bit less than I would have liked since my second dose of Phizer laid me out flat for about two days after dosage. I am in the middle of painting a ring, altering a shirt for next week, but the finished piece I'm most proud of this week was designed based off of the painting Lover's Eye by Alex Garcia
Sounds awesome! Excited to see more and hear about how things evolve. VERY exciting!
ReplyDeleteHola Sophia! What a wonderful creative project. And great picture by the way! Looking forward to learning more and seeing more about what you're doing! We miss you tons in C&C!!!! (Oh and Erin had a baby, her name is Adele!!! They're both doing great!)
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like an amazing project! Your goals make total sense to me. In my life before becoming a Spanish teacher I explored the idea of fashion design. In high school I was obsessed with surrealism, especially with works of Salvador Dalí. I had a part-time job in a costume factory and I had a face painting business with a few friends. What you´re looking to do these next three weeks sound like music to my ears. I can´t wait to see your creations!
ReplyDeleteSalvador Dalí is one of my biggest inspirations as well! I would love to see some of the work you've created as well, if you still have photos around. It sounds incredible!
DeleteThis looks amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteYour first design is already breathtaking! I’m so excited to see what else you make!
ReplyDeleteWow Sophia, these are so beautiful. I’m excited to see how you progress and everything you take inspiration from.💖
