Week 2
One of the more difficult moments I had this week revolved around the journey I have embarked upon with making rings. I am new to working with resin, and the idea of getting paint to stick to resin was something almost entirely foreign to me. I came into this week excited to create a ring with 3-dimensional texture on top, but getting it to stick was a hilarious mess at times, that resulted in my hands being coated with paint several times. I realized that it's hugely important to sand down and roughen the surface of whatever it is you're painting, so that added artistic mediums stick to it. This week I was most certainly able to push out of my cycle of only using cool tones, especially in the aspect of cosmetic art, and I was also able to engage in more fluid design creation, with the patterns I painted. I came away from this week not with questions but with huge excitement as to what I could create next.
Perhaps the kind of paint matters for the ring material you're using? You could switch to a different type of pain (what are you using now?) and see if that works more effectively. I'd imagine that the paint needs to adhere super well or it'll just rub off on the finger when the ring gets worn.
ReplyDeleteYou are completely right! I've found that the fabric paint I was using was ill suited to harder materials like stones and plastics. My original goal was to try and use up all the paint I bought without having to use other paint and ignore my original stash. (for eco friendly purposes) But like you suggested, oil paint is the perfect medium, and actually builds up a fantastic amount of texture, which lends more detail to the project.
DeleteSophia this is incredible!!! I love making rings, it's so fun. There are so many aspects of art and makeup that you mentioned that I have never heard of.
ReplyDeleteGenial, Sophia!
