Week 3

As we welcome in week three, my battle with oil paint continues, but I have gained significant ground thanks to the helpful advice from Veronic Ledoux. I created a fish out of oil paint and applied it to a ring that I had tinted with indigo alcohol paint, which bonds well with the cracks I created in the surface of the ring to create a water texture. My first attempt was glowing with success until I forgot that oil paint takes around 5 full centuries to dry, and I foolishly smeared my entire design past recognition while checking to see how close to being dry it was! This was a fantastic learning opportunity for me, as it taught me that art takes patience, even in moments when you want to just throw in the towel and start all over again immediately. It is absolutely critical that you take a moment to reflect before starting in again and risk making the same callous mistake.

The goals that I set way back in week one are some that I have continually strived to pursue, but the more into this project I go, the more I veer away from creating works of art with clothing, and more with painting cosmetically and artistically on jewelry, it's a comfortable in between for me, as the style of artwork still pushes me, but the mediums are still known. The more into this project I traipse, the more I find myself asking, how do we really define surrealism, and how can we push that definition artistically? As always, I am fully open to insight.

Below, I have included the final draft of the ring I painted, and a piece some of you may recognize from my makeup blog that I have revamped and improved on the 2nd time around! Have a lovely weekend all.
